Geddy Lee j bass and gauge

I have an MIM geddy and I'm planning on putting some d addario exl165 strings on it. The gauges are 45-105. I've heard some horror stories about these necks, anyone experience any problems using this gauge?

I have a Geddy with that gauge and never had an issue.

I also have a parts bass with a neck from the Geddy Lee sig and it also uses that gauge without issues. YMMV.

I have a Squier standard jazz that has a neck with the same profile as the Geddy Lee. I have 45-105 stainless rounds on it now, and have had the same gauge in Roto77 flatwounds on it. I've had no problems with it at all.

Doesn't Fender ship all of their basses with 45-105's?

I believe so, some people say they're too heavy for the neck. Is 45-105 a standard? Seems like they ship all their basses with that gauge.

I've had my Geddy for about 10 years with many different gauge strings on it. No issues with the neck.

IMO a lighter set feels and sounds more like a jazz bass 40-100. i save the 105's for my p basses. just my 2c tho.

Slight turn of the truss rod should take care of it.

I use EXL 170's on my Geddy. Feel and sound great!!!

I use .50-.110 on my Geddy, never had any issues!
