And I bet it would sell fast then! In fact, you would have the opportunity to list it as "Buy this side of beef and skid of toilet paper and, for a limited time, I'll throw in a red USA Geddy Jazz!"
I'm thinking how much buzz created by the masses at any given point in time helps create value...
... I'm surprised an ad for Geddy's underwear hasn't popped up in my advertising space.
I do think it's interesting to see the spectrum of thoughts ranging from intrinsic value to supply and demand.
The red ones were always higher and worth more than the standard black ones. From what Fender said when these came out there were 100 made worldwide and 50 of those were sold in the States. Contrary to what some have said and think here limited runs and certain colors are worth more than others. When there are no others for sale anywhere it can be worth alot more to the right buyer than the standard black one. I only wish I had kept the one I had.

It would be worth more if it was a special color or if Geddy's#1 was red, I dont see need to pay "extra" just because it's red, Like said, if I can get a "regular"(black)one cheaper, I 'd go Black & not look back!! or Get geddy to sign it" barchetta"!! GL
It`s probably because I am one of them, but there are probably a small set of Rush nerds who would pay some bucks for that bass (and probably do one what person did with theirs - put on a clear pickguard).
If one came up for sale and I had the cash for it as well as the potential use, I would snap it up...but probably at what it was selling for at the time at a maximum. I don`t expect a super-duper low price, but if someone wanted big bucks (IIRC, $2400 was used as a price to put up on Reverb) I don`t think I would go after it.
That said, all you need is one person to give up the cash. I don`t think I am so much of a fool as to think it has to be me.
If Fender did a reproduction of his 2012 CS Surf Green bass on the other hand...
If one came up for sale and I had the cash for it as well as the potential use, I would snap it up...but probably at what it was selling for at the time at a maximum. How many Rush fans or just people who wanted a specific Jazz with these appointments would make it worth their while? Enough to make as many as the (undoubtedly cheaper to produce) black ones? The important thing to me is it's the specs of the USA neck (the best part) with the classic look
I missed the party on this thread @DigitalMan, but having owned one of these myself and kicking myself for selling it, I would have been the next in line to buy it at your asking price. $500 or so more for this bass, which has been rare as hen's teeth since it came out, is nothing against the years I've and probably a few others have spent longing to see one again, especially if it came with the signed picture. Maybe someday when I have Custom Shop money I'll have them make me one...
It was an odd sale experience. I had a few PMs basically telling me that I was nuts because these basses are available on Reverb for $1250 (announcer: they are not). There were a lot of other questions that I didn't even have time to respond to, because within 24 hours of posting for sale (more broadly than TB) it was purchased no questions asked. Then I got a flood of panicked questions from the people who were watching the bass and asking questions if I had another, or if I knew anyone who does.
I guess my point being that if another one comes on the market here, Reverb, eBay or wherever, that time is of the essence. I'm bummed that I ended up disappointing quite a few folks by only having one to offer.
I like the CS idea BTW. I'd probably go with a no-pickguard option if I did that. I might even consider rear-route for the controls (which would deviate from the original).

. The number of people who otherwise responded they would not is *only* an indicator that your buyer market is very limited at this price.For sure. I remember them getting snapped up when first released back in 2015. The only one I've seen recently was here and sold within the hour it was listed.
The people calling you crazy are funny. It's a massively popular bass already (as of now U.S. ones are not in stock), make a version based on his second most-coveted Jazz, then throw it at a huge nerdy fanbase with money to spend, and they're gonna fly. This isn't some Guitar Center special color for heaven's sake...

Nice to look at but I have always just stuck with the standard product finishes. I do like to look at custom color, but I could never decide on just one. Then, it starts, and you have to get more custom colors, not play them, and just look at them wondering how much they are worth to someone else.
There is a big difference in custom colors versus limited colors. At any given time you can choose to order a custom color. My bass was limited to 100. Go figure. There were only a 100 of these basses (crimson red) to choose from. Not too many choices here.
