Geddy Lee's New Basses

He is using new basses but his main 72 has changed necks...could be a couple of times now...Im not sure but I know he plays that the majority of the time.

Now, if he would bust out the Ric, Steinberger and Wal as well that would be awesome!

I'm thinking we can all do without the boat oar, uh, Steinberger

Yes it has all the same size knobs like his 72. The goal of his tech was to have the bass look like the black bass but a different color. I attempted to do the wear as similar as possible.

The guy that built the green surf JB for Geddy.

Can anyone tell me why Rush don't have amps or speakers behind them on tour?.How do they do it?

They use Palmer DI/Speaker Load boxes. The last rig rundown I saw showed Alex's heads going onto these devices.

Ged uses a combination of preamps, and last time I looked, also some Orange heads that also go into Palmer's.

They are all using in ear monitoring and various amp sim devices direct to the PA system. This allow the FOH mixer more freedom when not having to compete with the amps on stage.

No, it was THE Rick, there's a thread on here where his tech from the Snakes & Arrows tour answered several questions about Geddy's gear and stuff. It's a great thread, his name is Russ Ryan.

That can't be it. There's no way a bass he's played live since '81 is that pristine. The beat up one in the OP is THE bass.

Did anyone else notice an extreme difference in the weathering on Geddy's basses from the Time Machine to Clockwork angels tour? These are his two '72 jazzes. I would find it hard to believe that he would send his main axe into fender, or whatever, and pay to have it beat up like the road worn stuff that Fender has now, but it appears he did something like that...

Also, on a side note, I love his new custom shop (which was obviously weathered by Fender or a luthier, since it's new). I saw them in Seattle last month and he played it on The Wreckers and one or two others that I can't remember. Anyone know the purpose of this one?

I don't know... I saw him playing it on the Time Machine Tour and it wasn't nearly that beaten up. He takes super good care of it, it only has some minor dings on it.

If you watch for it, you can plainly see as far back as Rush in Rio that his main black bass has all of that wear and tear on it--it just doesn't jump out at you because

1. Most of the wear is under where his picking arm usually rests, and
2. Stage lights

Plus, back in the TB thread where the Fender Custom Shop guy who made his newest bass was chiming in, he said straight up that the wear on that bass was designed to closely resemble that of his #1 black bass. It's no coincidence that they look so similar in photos.

Sort of I think.

The one pictured in the article has the black blocks and may well be the original neck. Since THE bass now sports creme blocks, I think the noted bass in the article has some other body mated to his original neck.

That's my take anyway.
