Geezer PJ Passive Pickups

I purchased some Geezer Butler EMG PJ passive pickups but the jazz pickup does not quite fit in a Standard Series Squire 4-string (09 ish). It is very close but I do not want to modify the opening. What basses DO these fit properly? I will probably buy something used to place them in. The Standard Series was just my project bass, could always add another project bass. Thanks!

I think it's more of an issue of your Squire having an odd sized pickup route.

Absolutely. The Standard Series is a bit different than a lot of Squiers. I want to try the Geezer pups and I do not want to modify my current project bass. Looking for basses they will fit into for a separate project.

I have a 2020 Boxer 4 string I refuse to change anything but stock on that as well. Even though it looks like they would fit one of those.

Suppose I will do some research, was checking in for some quick bass suggestions for these.

It should be a standard size jazz bridge pickup route. I recently installed a Geezer set in my old PJ that has had a couple of different pickups sets in it all with a Fender jazz bridge sized pickup. No help on what bodies have that route however. Sorry.

Any particular reason you don't want to modify the existing routes?

Well I like projects and I have modified a couple others. I just wanted to keep the standard series Squier "returnable" as I don't really see many floating around near me. The original pups in that thing weren't too bad either, I just as well put them back in and try for something else.

Also if you really care, they aren't the same exact tuners on this bass either. They have ever so slightly different hole patterns on them. I swear a few pieces are different sizes than normal on this one just to mess with people lol. The pickguard was warped on it when I got it from the previous owner, not sure that is original but it seems so.

The Standard Squier P-Bass Special Jazz pickup is the length of a neck jazz pickup, not a bridge jazz pickup. The Geezer pickups are the bridge length, which is about 1/16th of an inch longer than the neck one. Honestly, this barely qualifies as a modification. I use the Standard P-Bass Specials exclusively for gigging and did not hesitate to bust out the Dremel to accommodate the Geezers I put in. You'll need to remove a little bit of material around the mounting ears as well, but like I said, barely any at all. Literally 5 minutes work and you're golden.

I hear ya! I do have the tools. I will consider doing it.

I feel like if I am going to dremel I can just pick another bass I have.

Were the Geezers that much better? Can't wait to give them a run on the big Ampeg stuff.

That's my main rig right now, Squier P-Bass Special w/Geezers installed through an Ampeg PF-800 out to an Ampeg SVT-410 HLF. Absolutely kills. And though the stock pickups were certainly not bad by any means, the Geezers outshine them with tone and clarity. I could never go back, and well worth the ever-so-slight Dremel-ing. You'll thank me, lol.

Okay you sold me on it. I agree the original pups needed a bit more clarity to me, they do have a great tone otherwise. They weren't noiseless I could say. Ill bust out the tools and give them a try. That's a nice setup with the Portaflex and 410. I bet it jams. I have chosen the V4B all tube with an 93' 810 anniversary silver face fridge. It is usually what I go to when I feel like bothering my neighbors.

I am interested to compare the tones to my Fender Boxer series 2020. I feel like I can get any tone from that. Relatively similar neck on the Squier but lighter.
