What is the condition of a speaker that sounds good and clear for a clean signal even at loud settings, but very muddy/fartty when distored even at low levels.
I have a Avatar 2x12 guitar cab w/base level emenince speakers, running my guitar and bass through it for recording. I'm using a Epibhone Valve Jr head (low class a tube watts, with Sovtek LPS 12AX7 and JJ power tube), it could be the head I guess, I've heard they don't do high gain very well.
It sounds fine with clean sounds, but not useable with distorsion.
I'd like to get a good medium/high gain distorsion sound.
Should I change out the speakers, or is it more the amp/speaker combo.
I'm posting here cause I don't know of a guitar forum that is good.
