GenzBenz volume potentiometer failing

Hello!

Newcomer here.

I have a very nice Genz Benz combo GBE Series1-12T with amazing sound. The tweeter gives a bright punch when needed. Unfortunately, all 3 volume potentiometers are failing. They scratch very loud when moved and sometime all of a sudden while playing. I've already tried to clean them 2 times with contact cleaner, but it returns 2-3 weeks after.

Anyone has an idea? I can solder new potentiometers, but since GenzBenz is no longer in business, is it possible to get the right parts?

If the amp can't be saved, do you guys know a head amp that have a tweeter output?

Thx in advance!

That’s a pretty old amp, I believe that I still have the pots in stock. They are not easy to replace however. Since there are mechanical brackets, and it’s a double sided PCB, special precautions must be used to avoid destroying the double sided PCB.

Generally when the pots are like this, they have been ruined by the cleaner itself because they were improperly cleaned, OR there is another electrical problem causing this (or the cleaning cause a new problem because the real cause was not correctly identified).

The typical labor cost to repair this at my shop is around $100 plus the pots themselves. Did you spray ALL of them?

You can message me for information on the service program if you wish.

Yep I purchased it like 20 years ago already used in near mint condition. Really liked the sound, until the scratching noise!

I sprayed the 3 volume pots myself. But the first time was a tech near of here, so can’t certify he didn’t sprayed them all.

I will PM you for the possibility of repair.

Big thx! :)
