Genzler Magellan Pre... looks tasty

Personally the pre is last in chain for me takes all pedals well modulation, dirt, etc etc.

Yes, when you pre-shape the drive signal using the 4 on the Floor, you will experience added texture and harmonics into the Pre-Di.
Got mine today and it sounds Great can't wait to get the 4 on the floor Saturday..As far as the Preamp along with the active button I wish there was a bypass button instead of a mute button, maybe it's just me because I have a mute button on my amp and my Shure wireless...

Since the Magellan is a complete real Pre-DI, bypassing it defeats its entire purpose. It’s primarily live sound cream, but also quiet enough to be used in the studio.
1. Takes the instrument level signal and amplifies it to balanced or unbalanced line level.
2. Generates a balanced pre/post DI signal.
3. Contains all the necessary filters and eq.
4. Can mute the signal for live use.
Bypassing these functions would completely defeat the purpose of a complete, full featured preamp.

Apart from the 4OTF and Crashbox what are players using to add overdrive and a bit of chunk to the Magellan Pre? I’m coming from a Sansamp PBDDI that has a strong presence that I’m missing from the Magellan (which is fabulous for a clean signal). Not looking for buzz, fizz, or fuzz, just some low-mid solid grunt and some upper mid clank. I’ve tried a few pedals with very limited success.
Pedals I've used TC Mojo Mojo, Hamstead SubSpace, Red Muck Bass, Carcosa, CMC Civil War, Rodenberg LDP Deluxe, Broughton Scorpion, Broughton Calamity, Singular Audio Tubedrve, BAT Son of Pharaoh, & MBD3. heck even Broughton Josh Wah.

The Nate Navarrro vid on the website does a great job pairing the Magellan preamp and the Genz drive boxes, in case maybe you didnt see that.
I use the YYZ pedal. Sounds amazing through my Genzler rig.
I haven't run across anything that doesn't work; the Magellan is a blank canvas from that perspective.
Right now I'm using an Analog Man Dual Bad Bob as my always on dirty boost/drive, but I also have a Lusithand Ground & Pound, Crowther Hotcake and Prunes & Custard, Mozztronics fuzz, old GK Diesel Dawg (I know, right!), an Analogworm fuzz, DMB Stellar Drive and probably a number that aren't coming to mind. They all work. If you don't like the pedal via the Magellan, you probably don't like the pedal.
I think my issue is that several of the pedals that I have tried out are “preamp” pedals which leads me to believe that I am sending a line level signal to the Magellan instead of instrument level. To get anything near unity gain requires a delicate touch on the distortion gain/output. Taking the Genzler out of line, the pedals perform fine and I’ve liked several of them - I just like the Magellan more. To date, I’ve tried: Broughton SV-Pre, Sansamp VT, Grizzly, and a Vintage Microtubes. None have played well in the Genzler sandbox.
I would say about a little more than half the time.

I suspect the 4 on the Floor does this, and I'm probably going to get one to try it out!
I had a SV-PRE in use with the Magellan the issue was the SV-PRE, I had DCX BASS running into the Magellan as well worked perfectly together. IME the Magellan has never been the reason a pedal combination didn't work on my pedalboard currently running 13 pedals.

Thoughts on the Magellan Pre with a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes in front of it to get a tube-like warmth/slight OD? Would they work well together? I assume using one of the Contours as well could yield some good results too.
