Getting a funk bass.

I play funk almost exclusively, I used jazzes, presisions, Rays with flatwound and roundwound strings, had a bunch of basses at the same time, now I only have EBMM Starling with Thomastik Infeld flatwound strings. It really depends what feels the best to you at the end, it's all in your heart and fingers. I didn't found the best funk bass, I just found my best combination for my hands to play da funk. James Jamerson had a P bass for that, Larry Graham had a J bass, Bernard Edwards had a Stingray...

Bootsy on a J-Bass when he played with James Brown. That is one good definition of Funk Bass :-)

For sure, and as mentioned, Mark Adams with a "steriod" J ( three pups weren't it?).

hey, I was thinking, this is all a big ruse right? The OP said he has a "metal" bass and now needs a "funk" bass. This is like a "metal" bass thread. ( PS I hammer stoner doom riffs on the same J5 I "try" to funk on).

I do beleive we've been had! ;) Hook line and sinker, or lock, stock and barrel whichever you prefer!
