Getting a new bass (Multi Scale 5 string). First ever, but not sure what strings to get

I am picking up a EHB1265MSNML today (Link below).

I want to replace the stock strings, but I have no idea what I should be looking for. This will be my first ever 5 string and my first ever Multi-scale. So I'm a newb at this, and I'm looking for advice on what "Off the shelf" strings would fit.

Good question. I want them to fit, and I want to change the strings because I want to go with a brand that I can trust. I'm thinking this bass will come with less than stellar stock strings

also, not sure about anyone else, but the first thing I do when I get a new axe is put on new strings. I'm just not sure what string size/length this bass needs.

D'Addario EXL170-5SL (Super Long) = 45-65-80-100-130 with 38" winding length (ball end to taper).

Nothing's wrong with D'A EXL170 as they are the Toyota Corolla (or Honda Civic) of bass strings. Consistent and reliable. And those particular gauges should work well on your multi-scale. On a typical 34" scale, 45G and 65D are higher in tension and tighter in feel than 80A, 100E and 130B. On a multi-scale, this same set should feel more evenly balanced across all five strings.

Payson now has sets suitable for Ibanez multiscales. Their strings are made by D'addario, but to Payson's specs (taper, winding length, gauges). I don't use his strings on my fanned basses now, but have tried and liked them in the past. I use D'addario rounds on most of my parallel fret basses.

I've also enjoyed Dunlop Super Bright nickels and Elixir Nanoweb nickels on my Dingwall Super P5.

I always go for a tapered B string.

If you love EB cobalt flat, I recall that EHB MS owner successfully strung with it .

Highly recommend visit tb EHB club for string choice question.
