Getting bass and drums back into mix

Sooo, we record our live performances, drums and bass missing.
I used to have aux sends sent to recorder. This way controlling each channels levels seperately.
The new sound guy has everything set up post fader. Meaning what's in the mains is what is hits the "tape". The problem is that the drums being very acoustical in nature do not to be in mains much, and the bass is mostly sent to the subs.
My question is this. Is there a way to get the drums and bass back into the board to get to the recording??

To just answer the question, in cases where the drums and bass aren't in the mix at all because of the space you are playing in, have the soundguy un-assign them from the stereo mix so he can push up the faders on those channels to make the aux sends hit the recording.

But this way of recording doesn't make a lot of sense. If he wants the recording to be the same as his fader settings, he could simply use the record outputs of the Presonus (RCA outs, I think).

If you want to use an aux send(s) to get a different mix for recording, they really need to be set up pre-fader. There's no reason to tie up an aux if the sends are set up post-fader. Soundguy should know this.

And there's no shame in being new and not yet knowing all the basics, as long as he's open to the possibility that his current way isn't automatically the best way.

That's just it, I forgot to mention. All the aux sends are tied up being used for monitor mixes.
And yes, the sound guy should know this but they are learning as they go along.
I believe they record right off the RCA jacks. However the presonus has the FireWire out to a Mac if you want to record that way. Which didn't go well when they tried.
So if aux sends are full, is there a way to get the sound back in?

I've recorded live via firewire off my 16.4.2 into their WINDOWS app, recording all 16 channels (real-time) without a hitch. It can record raw audio so you can come back in later and add effects, EQ, and do a mix-down, etc... or you can record it like it is set up to go to FOH.
That's on Windows!!
On a Mac, it should be a no-brainer!

PS: I did make sure I bought a compatible firewire card for my laptop tho'.. If it's not working, my guess is they're doing something wrong. It worked flawlessly for me every time I used that method to record.

Were running two of those boards linked together. They are great. Our sound guys are more tech oriented than sound. They can rig a place up , but when it comes to sound and audio recording they fall short. I am becoming more concerned about this as our church will be streaming video services music included and you do to hear drums an bass.

That might be the issue.. I'm not sure firewire handles more than the channel count on the main board.
Not knowing how they are linked.. it's hard to tell.

we link 2 16.4.2's with a macbook pro via firewire and use Presonus Capture no problems.

OP - I would either assign all the channels I want in the mains to a Sub Group and assign that group to Main OR just not assign the drums and bass to Main or any group routed to main. Send everything to the recorder. That way you have the fat channel for the bass and drums. in our setup we typically have 1 spare sub group. Rec and delay and vocals on the other three. To my ear the Presonus comp wants to be hit pretty hard. So i send the vocals to it as a group. Not ideal but sweeter to my ear. Hope I'm not imaginng that ;-)
