getting power with sansamp rbi

so i just got my sansamp rbi yesterday. i read through the manual quickly, but was anxious to try it out. i originally wanted to use just the rbi alone with the behringer head i have only as only for power. but i cant get the original power i used to be able to get it seems. maybe theres something im doing wrong? i thought it would be actually a little louder but im not sure.

thanks

the sans amp tends to suck the mids out of your tone making you seem a little quieter. you have to experiment with it. keep in mind the presence control is boost only. 12 o'clock is half of its boost.

I would start with input off, output, bass, mid, and treble straight up at twevle o'clock, presence off and blend maxed out.

Bring up input slowly, listening carefully for the amount of drive you are getting - do you want growl or clean?

Then bring up your output to fairly loud.

Still resisting the eq and presence knobs, work the input and blend controls first - remembering a little goes a long way. With my G&L. the input ends up around 9 or 10 o'clock, which gives me a slight growl on heavier playing. My blend is in the 1 or 2 o'clock area.

Finally tweak eq slightly. For me, I run very little presence, about one o'clock on bass, mid varies from 11 to 1 o'clock, treble slightly less that 12 o'clock.

I run a Symetrix 501 compressor in the effects loop.

If you are not getting enough gain, try any input you can on the amp, input, effects return, aux in, power amp in. Gain has never been a problem for me with any Sansamp product, in fact, I have trouble taming the input section for a cleaner sound.

Hope this helps,

Mark

If you only have your Drive at 9 oclock that's why you are having trouble with volume. It should be at least noon or 1 oclock. Don't max out the blend control unless you want to suck out the mids,it works best around noon. You don't need much presence either, it's just another treble control, but where you have it it's not bad. Your bass, mid and treble controls should be about noon to start and then tweek just a little either way till you get what you want. Try this stuff out to see if you like it,you should get more volume and less noise that way. Also the RBI isn't made to get a major distorted sound, it just gets a good mild tube overdriven sound. Also if your Beringer has an effects return you might want to try the output from the RBI into that, that will give you the real RBI tone. I gigged an RBI for about 5 years till I got my Markbass I have now. They are great.
