getting rid of those nasty overtones when tapping...

If all your notes north of say the 12th fret or so are "evil", you might try dropping your pickups down just a tad. Could very well be that they are too close to the strings, and the magnets are literally pulling the strings into "evil" when you are up that high. Try it, a turn or so of a screw.....

Yea dude definatly go with the hairtie thing. I used to have the same thing when i was playing "afro blue" with the bass line on the low B. It works even better if you put it just off of the fret if your not playing that fret. I got a pretty tight one that works like a charm. Ask your girlfriend other womanly person to get one but make sure its hardcore.
The ones most girls use that are "braided" work terrible. They strech and eventually stop and your back where you started.
