Getting rid of truck cap

I have a Leer fiberglass truck cap for a 25 year old Ford truck that I need to get rid of. It has been repainted and refurbished to a great condition. I have $1600 into it so far but at this point it just needs to go. I have 6 different Craigslist ads up trying to sell it, and after calling every truck accessory place in the state I was told by one of them I'd probably get $100 if anything, with the rest declining to take it.

Should I just suck it up and take the loss? What's the best way to get rid of old car stuff like this?

The dimensions of truck beds changes with model updates. I don't know if topper builders modify the shell size or if there is some sort of adapter that goes between the bed and the topper. If the shell size changes with truck model, it could help explain why your having a hard time selling.

If you're on Facebook, try any of the pages dedicated to Ford trucks, Marketplace etc....

Not many 25 year old Fords around me that still have a box solid enough to hold a cap up.

It's definitely not a common size.

I didn't think of that. I've seen a handful of this specific model in the wild and most of them have the wheel wells completely rusted out.

Something is worth what you can get for it. What you have invested in it is totally irrelevant.

Ask $200 and settle for $100. And yes, listing it on Ford truck forums is a good idea. You should belong to at least one Ford forum anyway for maintenance and repair tips.

I had a similar fiberglass Leer cover on my 2003 Dodge 4x4 2500. It came with the truck.

I thought I really don’t need that, it’s a high dollar item, I’ll just sell it. Then I ran into what you’re seeing now.

I did finally get rid of it. I sold the truck…

You need to find a truck forum, or local facebook truck owners page.
In WA, canopys go quick if they're solid and no missing glass.

I work in a diesel pickup repair shop, and still tons of nice trucks still on the road, we aren't known along the weet for rusted out hulks unless it came from someplace east.

I have two full size Dodges, one has a matching canopy, and the bigger of the two trucks doesn't. I've been looking out for a white shortbed 03-09 canopy and no success for years now.
I love having them.

Forgot to say:
25 year old Ford truck. I assume here its a Superduty?
That canopy fits til 07, might even fit 08-10 if you measure it out.

If its the little Ranger...then I can see why its impossible to sell, no one spends money on Rangers anymore.
