Gibson bass strings?

I got some. Both long scale sets came with short scale Ds. They otherwise seemed nice.

I can happily recommend the short scale Gibson Rounds, waiting for a verdict on the flats. Though for me, it will be a while before I need to do that.

also, any insight on who is making them and what color wraps you have to look at?

If the rounds are the same as the stock rounds that came on my Gibson DC jr, I agree. Surprisingly great strings.

The stock rounds didn’t have silks. Did your rounds have silks? I’m trying to determine if the Gibson rounds have silks when purchased on their own.

Does this mean they will start focusing more on basses too? Like a 5-string bass to match their 5-string sets, lol. They've currently got more types of bass strings on their website than basses!

Don't get me wrong, I love SGs/EBs and T-birds but the number of basses in their catalog compared to guitars doesn't exactly inspire much confidence in Gibson as a bass string company. I'm sure they're decent strings but I personally don't think I will bother unless they get glowing reviews.

I hope so. A reverse tbird is due this year. What they need to do is try to get some answer to the higher end Spector Warwick style of bass. Very ergonomic and high end offering. I’d really like to see a short scale offering in this area too. As well as custom shop stuff.

But the answer for now is only one new bass this year is planned.

The Gibson flats on my Gibson Les Paul Jr. were some of the brightest flats I've every had on a bass, and I have 28 basses now, and most of them have flats. Even brighter than Chromes. They were actually annoyingly bright for me till I broke them in for a couple of weeks. I became very happy with them. The string to string volume/consistency was really good...which isn't always the case with flats. The surface was very smooth, and pleasant. Some of the most comfortable flats I've used. My usual favorite flats have been LaBella...which I still think highly of.

Overall, I'd say they are very near my favorite flats...AFTER they are broken in. Probably a tie with LaBella's. This of course depends on the bass. The Gibsons would be really good on a bass that's kind of bassy, and needs some extra brightness. The LaBellas are less bright, more mellow, and better suited to basses that have plenty of presence and mids already.

I tried the Gibsons after being favorably impressed with the round-wounds that came on that same LP Jr. bass. Those were really nice and bright, but not too twangy. Piano-like I'd say.

Right at the moment, I'm trying some GHS PressureWounds on that Gibson bass. I like those too, but I think the PW set I bought for my Ric 4001 go together better. I like the PressureWounds a bunch on the Ric! They are much more comfortable to play than the RotoSounds I had been using. They are also kinder to the frets, and squeak much less when moving quickly.

No, I don't work for Gibson (or any other guitar or sting maker), and never have, and I pay full price for all my strings and basses. These are just my personal observations, you may feel completely differently about any of these strings on your bass.

and, do the rounds have silk ? Would they fit a 30 inch bass ? (gibson = 30.5 inch)

Way back in the day, when I was primarily a guitar player, I was a bender. I loved the blues and used to go 1 1/2 to 2 steps on a bend.

People asked me how I could get that done and I mentioned: Gibson (I'm sure they didn't make them) Ultra Light Strings. They were .006!

They were all I used until my local retailer couldn't get them, anymore.

Just a side note: I used to live right near the old "Black Diamond String Company" and I'm fairly certain they made the Gibson strings (though I never got inside the joint).

Just installed a set of these Gibson flatwounds on my Japanese Fender Jazz bass. 45-100. They are really good. I had La Bella LTFs on previously which were a bit lifeless. They are more warm and less tinny compared to Fender 9050s. Let's see how they sounds after being broken in. But so far they are really well balanced and feel great in terms of tension.
