Apologies if this has been covered... just wondering you guys use for gig bags for your G3/G’s and Rippers?

I have an old Ritter bag that’s on its way out and can’t really get my bass into a Mono or similar without testing first (also quite pricey!). Needs to have room for a couple of cables and 2 pedals and a Trace Elf (small class D amp). Any suggestions?

Mine DOES fit in my mono cases. ..a double one and a single mono case / bag. But it is tight.
Hard case apart from that. ..an Epi marked case of unknown origin

This may not be the solution you’re looking for but I just measured my G-3 compared to my Epi JC and a JC case will fit a G-3. Probably need to pad it up since the g-3 is so slim and about an inch narrower on the lower bout though. Upper bouts are very close to equal. Overall Length tail to nut is 1/2” shorter on the G. Hello everyone,
May I join the conversation?! I am proud to be the new owner of a black '76 Gibson G3. Got a hell of a deal on it... although that deal was justified by the previous owner's attempt at converting it to an 8 string. Sure, there's a few holes in the body, and a little routing has been done on the back, but it isn't the end of the world. The near future I'll be heading back to my hometown to my Dad's woodshop to restore it to it's former glory (he knows all the luthier tricks). This beast sounds incredible though, and the playability is pretty darn good even with a 2x4 for a neck . This has been my dream bass for years now, so happy to finally own one. Here's some pics:



So aside from the ghastly holes, the one other thing that is bothering me is the rusty, knock-off Fender style bridge. Does anyone have any experience with replacement high mass bridges that can be used with the existing string through holes? This is my first bass capable of string through so I'd love to take advantage of it

Congrats on the G3. It looks remarkably clean and in good nic apart from the holes

Thanks @rodl2005! It wasn't clean when I first got it, that's for sure haha. Ended up spending an entire day carefully pulling out every screw and brushing/wiping everything down. Mojo is one thing, but someone else's dead skin is another

Back in 1977 I bought a used '76 G-3 and used it up until the early 1980's. I have a '74 Grabber with the one piece neck like in the early ads.

Sweet, Looks just like mine! What do you mean about the “one piece neck” though? Wouldn’t function very well in two pieces ....

The typical Grabber/G-3 neck had a scarf joint and the headstock was tilted back. The earliest Grabber basses were made with necks similar to a Fender. Maple with a skunk stripe on the back and a straight headstock. Like Gene Simmons' example.

LOL, I have lots of Amps, That one was just for playing in front of TV... it is gone, now the SWR working pro 12 is in its place...

Well, I snagged an affordable one. Got it today an noticed the '70s Gibson QC on the middle pickup. The winding was encased at an angle Just to be sure I popped it off and looked, and yep that pickup is permanently skewed inside the clear epoxy/whatever housing. I wonder if it makes much difference in the sound.

I am about to take it home and plug it in and see what's what.

My G3's pick ups are at skew wiff angles too. Makes zero difference to the sound ime.

Good to know. I plugged it into a Sunn Beta Bass with a 2x15 (Faitals) and it can thump or do some nasal grindy things depending on the pickup selector. It's a light one too, broken in nicely, balances good....which is the kind of bass I love. Smells like moth balls! Pic from the Reverb listing:

my pickups loosen up all the time, no sound change. You could just adjust them to be straight and see if it makes a difference.
