Gibson Les Paul recording bass

Had one for awhile, dumped it stupid cheap. STUPID cheap.
Interesting tone(s)- I always thought it sounded exactly like the background music you'd hear in early Dirty Harry movies, where he's stalking the killer through some abandoned industrial complex in San Francisco. Short-scale, very *glinky*. HEAVY like you wouldn't believe.

Yeah, I was just curious if anyone had some practical experience or advice with it, like "Don't get it, the headstocks are known to randomly snap off" or something.

I know you need a low-impedence transformer cable in order to use it, but he says he has one for it. Also, I heard that Shure makes a modern equivalent.

And I don't have a problem with it being heavy; I own three Warwicks! Plus, I'm young, now's the time to own the heavy gear :D

Greetings from the North,

I bought one new back in the day and traded it for a Rick. Wish I still had both lol. Make sure that you get the transformer for best results and also STRAP LOCKS. The guy that ended up buying mine, from the shop I traded it to, dropped it at a warehouse party when the cheap strap let go. The Mohogany body received a crack that almost ran the length of the body. Hope you enjoy it.

What would be fair price for one of these today, in good condition? There's one on eBay for nearly four grand; I don't know if that's an exorbitant price or not....

that's just silly.

1000-1500 TOPS. I bought a Gibson Les Paul triumph bass off ebay (that I owned 20 years ago) for 1500. And that inflated price was only cos I got into a bidding war with someone else.

I had this one years and years ago. Love the tones I got from it. Had a local guy make it fretless with a black ebony fret board and pearl inlay.
