GIBSON SG BASS

I bought a near mint 2013 SG Faded Cherry bass about a year ago. The previous owner had upgraded the bridge to a Hipshot and I am very happy with it. I use it as one of my performance basses because it sounds great on older tunes. I can't say that the neck dive is a problem for me but I always have my hand on the neck of every bass out of habit. (I never understood why people don't keep their hands on the neck. Are they signing autographs? Tying their sneakers?) I put Ernie Ball strap locks on it and reversed the male portion of the lock thru the strap so there's no twist in the strap between my shoulder and the strap button.

The 20 fret neck is a nice fit for my regular sized hands and gives me a little more speed around the frets. My lead guitar player loves to play it.

My only complaint is relatively minor: the hole for the electronics access. Gibson did a less than stellar job with the routing of the hole and left it a bit "feathered" for lack of a better term. It's relatively minor and the rest of the fit and finish is excellent so I can forgive them for it. Their QC should have caught it.

Well not all of us can always keep our hand on the bass neck. Sometimes I put both hands on the mic stand and sing while looking deeply into the eyes of the thousands of girls in the front row. I don't want my bass neck going anywhere!

I own two SGs. The one on the left is a Chocolate SG Special and the one on the right is Fireburst. I love them both. ZERO neck dive with either or muddy tones. These two are my main gigging basses. I got the chocolate one while p bass shopping. It just happened to be there that day and I picked it up and it just clicked. Came across the Fireburst on EBay for dirt cheap. Guy had bought it but couldn't get used to the short scale. I'm always on the lookout for the Cherry satin one they made that yr so I can have the whole set.

We called them by their names. EBO or EB3 in the old days. SGs aplenty and we never called them that. :) Before I had an EB2D I had an early EBO with the black plastic pickup cover. Not muddy and powerful compared to Fenders. Sorry folks. That's why you saw so many Fenders with the humbucking in bridge position. Sheehan knew! Bassists wanted it all.

The many string choices of today would have helped. Pyramids were a tonally full spectrum string for that short scale.

want to sell one

I'm waiting for Rondomusic.com to release a new electric steel string magnetic pup Epiphone SG style 20.5" scale baritone ukulele so I can convert it to a bass uke that combines the look of an EB-0 and EB-3.
