Gibsons and Epiphones

I tried searching for opinions on the Epiphone EB-3 but kept getting the error message in return, so I'll ask here. I've been listening to a lot of Gov't Mule lately, and I saw on a lot of the vids of them on Youtube that Allen Woody played a Gibson bass a lot, and I really dig his tone. If I'm not mistaken, he played mostly short scale basses. I'm after that dark, muddy tone. If the shorter scale contributes to his tone at all, would the EB-0 be the way to go? I am definitely on a budget and the Gibson is way out of my league. However, I noticed the EB-0 has only one pickup, and the EB-3 has two, hence more tonal options. What's a guy to do? Thanks!

This is the bass for you, he designed it.
