Gig From Hell Tonight!!!

I just finished playing a gig in a real rough part of town that was amazingly brutal.

The band sounded great, but over the course of the night...

- A guy wanted to fight me when I got out of my car near bar for soundcheck at about 7:30pm!!!

- I left a bunch of cables at home, so I had to go get them. When I parked again near the bar at about 8:00, a guy and his girlfriend were fighting (I mean fighting! She was pulling his hair and stuff.)

- Two doors down was a real scummy rental building that the police were evicting all residents out of so there were a bunch (12 or more) of crackheads on the sidewalk with their possessions (mattresses, beds, etc.) I saw 2 more fights while lugging my gear into the bar.

- None of our friends showed up as the area was a complete war zone and they decided to go home when they drove by the bar and surrounding chaos. When we started playing, there were the 3 wives and a couple of drunks at the bar. 5 or 6 people total!

- 2 drunks came in as we took our first break and immediately started hitting on my wife. One guy kissed her boot! Luckily he backed off when I told him to pi$$ off!

- Some crazy broad (completely blasted) jumped on stage and grabbed my mic and started singing some idiotic song. Luckily, the bouncer saw my face and got her off the stage after a few seconds.

- I watched a crackhead puke his guts out outside (there is a methadone clinic around the corner too, did I forget to mention that?)

- Lastly, another drunk tried to start a fight with me and my drummer when we were finishing up packing our gear into our cars.

I just shake my head sometimes when I realize what I will do to make a measly $100 or so!

What a night! :D

This has got to be the worst night I have had yet. Again, the band sounded never better, but worrying about getting jumped while trying to play a low paying gig is just crazy! Of course, I will do it again!:bassist: :D

I love those type of gig's [ not ] you want to try some over here sometime in the uk..
That is a normal night in some pub's over here ..lol
I once played at a wedding with doormen checkingeveryone on the way in for guns/knives and there was fighting all night, no water in the place apart from what you could get from a standpipe.
But then again at the time the band was called

Dont Give A F**k

:bassist:

I love gigging in "tough" pubs :D guys covered in tattoos eating lightbulbs for their supper - and if you dare to deviate to anything other than AC/DC, Motorhead or Judas Priest (sometimes Iron Maiden if they are a diverse crowd) dont count on getting off stage in one peice.

Heres a funny story by the way.

A year ago an AC/DC tribute band played at one of the local "rough houses" it was mainly populated by bikers with blood stained faces and no teeth anyway this band played a 2 hour set (no breaks) and a 15 minute encore - however the crowd wanted to party all night (so they did) they smashed the whole bar up - ripped toilets out of bathrooms attempted to set bar stools on fire - riot police had to be called in to calm things down lol!

Sounds more like Detroit. Or Newark. Or maybe the south side of Chicago...
