If I own it, I gig it: more or less the point 
As someone else noted: my basses are first in and last out during loads.
Basses go back in their bags on breaks.
I don't load out til I'm paid and ready to leave; no car full of gear sitting there.
I also have my stuff insured. This costs "about a gig or two of income per year," which seems well worth it, to me.
