GK 1001, Traynor DB800H, Ampeg Svt

My dealer recommends them in that order and that is the only lines he carries.
i Like my dealer
trying to stay under 1K
I've been out of it a while ans need advice, have read a lot of the other forums and i suppose carvin would be in the running, have never really been around anyone who uses them

I haven't played the Traynor but both the GK and SVT are fantastic amps. What are your requirements? How much power do you need,? What are you tonal goals? And which model of SVT are you looking at?

If you try the Gallien Krueger and the SVT you'll probably find that there complete opposites tonally. But if you asking just for quality there both great.

Weeeelllll...GK's quality is great and Ampeg's used to be great. I wouldn't trust a thing they make now since those LOUD idiots ran it into the ground.

i figure buy once and be down with it.
at this time i'm not gigging but practicing in a "hall" type facility and a 200w combo will suffice...but
i'm hoping to start gigging (small bars and pubs) and would be happy with 500W, but money wise the difference doesn't negate going up a little to avoid having to upgrade
i play finger, pick and chord a little (no slap per se) svt classic 300W

I thought that comment was going to come out, I just didn't want to be the one to say it- as i haven't witnessed the decline in quality myself.

I personally prefer the sound of a tube amp, so out of the three i'd still choose the ampeg.

i'm going with the power based on my dealer's recommendations and what i believe to be a wiser decision over the long run. i trust this guy and he's never steered me wrong. he recommends the gk over the other two brands for sure with traynor being 2nd.

i want the amp that best controls the speaker

i've no doubts on build quality and was aware of the issues ampeg may or may not have

cabinets are going to be another issue, the guy i deal with has the three mfg, the dealer closest to me has all kinds but fails to realize that in order to sell, it has to be priced right (he's the guy with SWR). good friend of mine uses swr cabinets

I have been an Ampeg guy for over 35 years,....Used nothing but SVT tube amps for most of that time. I just recently got a GK2001RB and I am quite impressed! I was worried I might miss the beast but the GK has awesome tone shaping and this thing has PLENTY of power.....I hear and read so much about ohms and power ratings when not matched, but this amp delivers no matter what! I use Ampeg and Hartke cabs and it sounds killer. Couldn't be happier.
