Need to replace the bass pot on an 800RB. It is a B50K. I would normally buy from mouser, but they are out of stock
What's wrong with the pot?
Damaged?
Making noises?
Scratchy when moving the knob?
Call GK, if all you need is one pot they might just send it to you. However, if you need knob caps or anything else you can just buy them direct from the source. I made an ailing 800rb look like new this way.
Cuts in and out. All the other pots have a noticable "stiffness" when turned. This one is very loose compared to the others.
Tried cleaning it?
All pots work looser after cleaning, as it also cleans out the greasepack that gives them resistance to turning.
It also fixes the snap-crackle-pop, cutouts, volume jumps, etc.
I would suggest the same as others. Clean with DeOxit and see if that helps before replacing.
I would also tighten any nuts or bolts to make sure it's not adding to any play.
I forgot about digikey! They used to have a $20 minimum, so I almost never used them for small orders. It looks like they have what I need. Thanks beans!
I saw one place selling what seemed to be used ones for $25. If it isn't too late, it might be a good idea to order an extra pot to keep as a spare.
Hey Sean! I just brought a late 90s 800rb back to life, however I notice I’m having the same tightness/stiffness as well in the pots. The boost pot cuts out at like 2 o clock position for some reason. Would a cleaning work? I know you said you did but it wasn’t any use. What did you end up doing to fix the issues? Also, how the heck do you take the knobs off? Thanks!!

When comparing the amp to others, do you think they (the knobs) are a little stiffer to turn than other amps?
Got it, thanks again man! Do you remember where you got the pots? I’m having a hard time finding the correct 7mm shaft B50Ks
If you really get stuck a 6.35mm shaft could easily be brought up to 7mm with a hand knurler. Unless you’re a chronic tool-aholic buying one won’t be feasible to do one pot but small engine and bicycle mechanics sometimes have them. Bringing an aluminum shaft up .65mm is FA though. If you have the eye and light touch for it you could low-rent knurl it with just screw pliers or small vise grips. If you don’t already own suitable pliers and a vernier or digital calliper you probably don’t even want to consider doing this.

The standard lengths are 15 and 20mm, iirc GK used 15mm.
Double-check how the length is measured. Have you considered calling GK for the factory part?
