IMHO that is the best backup plan. You already have cabs and most that own the 400RB's really have trouble letting them go, they sound so darn good.

I bought the rb400
hooked up to two 12's in Marshall cab/celestrians. 8-ohm -150rms

any tips for best sound adjustment?

The contour is the "suck" control for most, turns the amp into an Ampeg scoop. I prefer to run the volume (preamp input) high (between 11:00 and 2:00) and adjust the master for volume. The other way is to set the master at 3:00 and use the volume to set the level. Try both ways and start with tone controls and boost at 12:00. Start moving controls from there (Boost and Master interact with each other) to get what each control can do for your sound.

you drop contour control to low?

Atm, I'm running thru both Marshall cabs.
Master on 3 and adjust input volume for loudness seems best for my lows. Was rattling everything in the house and now it's better.

My old Yamaha bass only has middle pickups.
Need to upgrade that but for now they R rockin.

I usually have the contour full CCW (7:00), for some songs/styles I'll add some. BTW here is the Owner's manual [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] the Presence control is also important. The manual has some starter settings to try.

Your pups can make a huge difference on GKs with the contour and boost. My 1994 Warwick gets a low growl with EQ flat on the MB112 and MB115. But the boost does nothing, and the contour adds nothing. I used a MIM Jazz on the MB115 and the boost rocked, and the contour did some good. So what you play can make differences with the MB combos. Others may add to this but this is what my results have been. But, FWIW, I can do just fine without either the boost or contour.
