GK Fusion 550 Return it? or Fix it?

I ordered on new from RMCAudio and received it on past Thursday.
I played through it for 5 minutes or so and sounded pretty good through my Bergantino Cabs.

I usually practice on my small peavey amp at home so I put the fusion on my rack and get it ready to go for Sunday service at church.

Now, on Sunday I go to church and get everything set up and I played a open note and Suddenly I hear over drive ish distortion sound(Master was at 3 o'clock and Gain was at 12).
Thinking that my Eq setting was wrong and I tried to dial in the right tone but whatever I do, it had distortion. So I had to use only the PA system to finish the service.

I get home and try it again and now it sounds fine :scowl: but after couple minutes of testing and playing, it doesn't make distortion anymore but volume is significantly dropped and making all finds of hissing and radio frequency like buzzing.

So I tried with different Bergantino Cab that I have (I have AE210, HT112 and trying w/ AE210) and it was doing the same thing.
I tried the Cabs with my Genz Benz head and Cabs sounded great so I'm very certain there's nothing wrong with the Cabinets.

Now the dilemma is that I actually liked the tone of Fusion 550 while it worked. Not too hi fi like Genz but have that GK character(Growl clarity and punch). But who knows that even if I get the Fusion Fixed, it might happen again and while motorized knobs are very cool but it's more thing break. So what do you guys think I should do?
:crying:

I would have them exchange the unit and see what happens. Chances are you got a bad one and you will have no problems with the next one.

If you liked the tone of it when it was working, then you will probably like the new one just as much.

Then, let me know your full review on it, as I am considering that amp as well.
That one, or the new Ampeg SVT-VR are on my short list as I write this but I just worry about the quality of the "new" SVT-VR. I have heard some great things and some not-so-great things about it so far.
The Fusion 550 from what I've seen, seems like a great amp, and already having some GK MB-III combos and an 800RB for practice/small rehersal and as a Moog Taurus pedals amp (800RB into Peavey 1810 cab), I have had no problems with any of my GK stuff.

I just arrived back home from Perth. While there did a silly thing and visited a few bass rig shops and was fortunate enough to try the Fusion. I loved the tone--- similar to what I used to pull out of my old 800rb but then I tried a Little Mark Bass 800 tube on the same speakers and was blown away. So much so I bought one and being so light carried it on board for the trip home.I hope money wise you resolve your dilemma but do yourself a favour if you have any doubts and try one. Good luck and hope you're back in business soon!!

I just saw this thread. I own a Fusion. You were in a church and running this amp at 3 o'clock and the gain on 12? Seriously? I have played a big rooms with a loud, loud band using the Fusion and 2 Berg ae210s. I don't get it past 9 o'clock with the gain around 10/11. I hope you sent it back because that's so insane as to be hands down a problem with your unit, unless your church is an outdoor stadium seating 40,000!

Im with you on the motorized knobs, seems like that could be a problem down the line. But you should return the head and either get another f550 or something else, there is obviously something wrong with yours.even if it costs you a restocking fee,you need peace of mind that it will not happen again!
