GK Fusion 800S + Cab

Hey guys, just got a good deal on a new amp. Moving away from a combo for a bit more flexibility.

Picked up the GK Fusion 800S and am now considering whether to go for a 410 or 212 setup.

I've noticed there's about £100 price difference (on Andertons) between a NEO IV 4 Ohm and 8 Ohm 212, anyone know why that's the case or help me understand? Would I be paying £100 for the flexibility of adding another cab?

I don't see why it would matter given the head has 4+4 = 2 Ohms as an option on the back. Am I missing something?

One of those 212s will be more than enough (I think) for what I'm doing. Small/medium gigs and maybe a small festival next year. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I’ve learned to like 12’s over a 4-10 after the 90’s.
It really depends on the specific enclosure.

In fact, reviewing the manual tells me that it would only deliver 400W at 8 Ohms, so even less reason to buy the more expensive version.

Seems counter intuitive which is why I'm double checking!

Yeah I've tested a few 410s lately and I found them a bit muddy. My current Markbass combo is 210 and I do like it though.

I’m partial to the 212 cabinet myself.

This is an 8 ohm version of the cabinet. I haven't needed more, but i do have another one just like it that lives at my practice space. when stacked, the 800 watts is impressive.

for my real world application though, i've only gigged this cab with a 500w Aguillar head which would be pushing about 250 watts. it's been plenty for any of the small to mid sized gigs i've done. so i would imagine the 400 watts from this head into the cab would be more than enough for most any bar or mid size venue.

i don't have anything against a 410 cabinet, i'm sure they sound great but i played this one and didn't feel the need to go any further. always get positive feedback on the sound coming out of it. it's a reasonable size and with the casters, it's not too bad to move around. the weight isn't terrible being a Neo cab, though it think it's a version 1, so a bit heavier than the newer ones.

The only issue is a 4 ohm cab locks you in to have a 2 ohm stable head if you want to add another cab.

Both 2x12 cabs show the same price here state side.

Limiting myself to 2 Ohm heads in future saves me £100 now, but grants me 800W now.

Realistically 800W is complete overkill for my situation unless I'm doing large outdoor events without support, right? I'll be good with the 400w?

Actually, you can run a 4 and 8 Ohm Cabinet off the Fusion S 800 at the same time. (You could go 4 now and add an 8 Ohm later.)
