GK getting a loud buzz

I have two basses, a late 70's Fender Precision and a MM Stingray from early 90's. I just bought a new GK Legacy 500 with a GK Neo IV 2x10 cab. I'm setting it up according to a video that Bob Gallien created.

My issue is that I'm getting a loud buzz from the P bass unless the tone is set in full bass. Once I move towards a treble sound, the buzz gets really loud.

With the MM I do get some buzz but not nearly as much as the P bass.

As a note, I wasn't really playing much for years and the basses have been sitting. I'm thinking it has to be something with the basses and will borrow one to test my theory, but was looking for feedback here.

Were you using another different amp before you got the new GK? Do you have access to another amp for purpose of comparison?

I do, and I do not get the buzz. After I posted, I did start from the beginning again by setting the trim, then the EQ, and when the volume is reasonably low, I do not get the buzz. It is slightly better than yesterday when I increase the tone towards treble.

The pots in both basses are original, so I started to think are those in rough shape. I just started to want to play more.

If you unplug the bass from the front of the amp, is the amp still noisy. If not, it’s almost certainly the bass or the cable.

Are you using a shielded instrument cable from the bass to the amp (and not a speaker cable)?

Ah, thanks. I just grabbed a cable that I thought was working, but apparently not. I switched after I read your comment. As an IT guy I should have tried that when troubleshooting. Thanks again.
