I have always looked up to him because when I first started playing bass he was the first left handed bassist that I saw. I am going to see godsmack tonight in huntington.

It was awesome! I was 10 feet from the stage on Robbie's side. I got the **** nocked out of me in the pit (It was bigger than the other side's pit). I got home at like 2 & had to go to shcool today & that sucked. Robbie uses those SWR custom 12's like someone said.

What kind of Ibanez is it that he plays?

Hey, I noticed that in the "Straight out of Line" video Robbie is playing an Ibanez 5 string. Now Godsmack tunes their guitar to a drop C. Does Robbie just tune his 5 string to standard? I think it would be kind of a pain to be holding the first fret all the time while the guitarist was playing an open chord. Anybody know how he tunes his five string?

i think his tuning would be either tune the low string to C, or the low string to G then C


ex:

C,G,C,F,A#

or

G,C,G,C,F

the second is how i tune when my band uses drop C, since i have a 5 and the guitarists dont use 7s

It makes sense to me anyways-- look at Van Halen 1 and how "outside the box" it was for rock guitar-- monster distotion, tapping, whammy bar molestation. Nobody else was doing that sort of thing at the time, and Fripp and other experimental/progressive guitarists were a sight closer to what Eddie was doing than, say, Blackmore, Page, Tom Scholz, or Neal Schon.

I believe that Jimmy Page was tapping before Eddy was, but it was Eddy that made it popular. I forget where I heard that, but I did hear it.

I hate that straight out of line song just because of the vocal melody... it ruins the song... "Straight outta liiIiIiIne"


I do dig a few of their songs. I coulda guessed they were an AIC tribute band on the basis of the name. I guess they are one of the better NU bands. God I hate that term...

Godsmack never was an AIC tribute band. They got their name because Sully made fun of Tony for having a cold sore & the next practice, Sully had one in the same place & tony said god smacked you for being an *******. Tony was in a band befor godsmack called "The Answer" & described themselves as "High Energy Dance Music"

I know Godsmack is an AIC song because I am a huge AIC fan. Godsamck was not an
AIC cover band, read my post. The band said this on MTV a while back.

But I do recall the singer from Godsmack saying that they were a Alice in chains cover band.

After all who really cares?

They are a great band ........Who cares where the name came from!

godsmack 100% was a alice in chains cover band! i grew up (and still live)in the same town as most of the dudes in godsmack i used to sell paint to robbie and my nieighbor was in a band in high school with robbie and i have another friend who was the original guitar player...anyway they played the local scene (haverhill, lawrence, lowell) playing mostly aic covers for awhile wouldn't call the a tribute band but it is how they started out.
