Going Full Cab... need insight...

Head = Peavey Mark VIII (old school teal lettering) 600W@2ohms
Cab = 4X10 Seismic Audio 800W (8ohms)

Question = So now I want to add a 1X15 cab to the picture... Looking for a good 4ohms cab to pump out 2.667ohms from the head... suggestions?

Just shop around and buy what you like/can afford, because any answer you get here is only the opinion of whoever gives it, and yours might be totally different. Bring your head to a guitar store and try em out.

Thanks - I was just wanting to know whether or not I should avoid certain brands. Also, I've heard mixed reviews on mixing cabs with differing impedence... and wanted to be sure no one saw a problem with combining the 4ohm and 8ohm cabs... I know it can be done, but does using cabs with differing impedence put a strain on the head?

If your amp can handle 2Ω then 2.67Ω will not be a problem. However the 4Ω cab will get twice the power that the 8Ω cab will receive.

Great info... I wasn't aware of that...

so if my 600watt head pushes out [email protected]... is the load sent to the two cabs split into thirds as outlined below?:
166watts would go to the 8ohm cab
332watts would go to the 4ohm cab

If the above distribution is correct, that seems like I'm not making the most of my cabs... I wonder if it would be "worth it" to "scrap" the 8ohms cab and focus on two 4ohms cabs to get the full 600 watts. To answer that, I suppose I would have to ask if there would there be a big audible (volume) difference between two cabs at 300watts each vs. two cabs splitting ~500watts per the above layout (if that is even correct)?

Loudness is mostly in the cab, not in the amount of watts being put out..

Carvin's BR15 cab, 299.00, 600 watts rms, 4 ohms. Can't be beat, with any stick.
