alright so I have an old 1969 traynor YC-810. the one of the older versions with the removable back. i rewired it today from 8 to 4 ohm, had the back still removed and laying against the back of the cabinet and tested it to see if it worked. the bass from it rumbled so much that the backplate fell backwards and the tabs from the input jack and the first speaker it was wired to ripped right off. so I'm just asking from some reassurance if I should buy a new jack and a new speaker all together and just rewire them again? sorry if it sounds dumb. I'm just so in shock still haha.

Yep, it is impossible to take an 8 ohm cabinet and rewire it to get 4 ohms (with all drivers working correctly).
You're not as gooched as you think you are. Input jacks are easy to find and the speaker's still likely good, and I believe you can replace the tabs on the speaker. But what's with wiring it to 4 ohms? Been my experience that wiring an 8 ohm 810 to 4 ohms is impossible and vice versa.

I don't know why you would think you needed a new speaker since you are down with monkeying with the wiring. Monkey it back like it was before.

If the terminal tab was torn off of the speaker, the cone could have been torn with it. An eyeball test would tell.

as for the jack and speaker, i'll post some pics soon. maybe some of you could give me some feedback? don't exactly have the time right now to mess around with the cab. but the speaker has 2 leads from the tab directly from inside the speaker itself. one of the leads has ripped right out of the speaker so i dunno if i could fix it without ripping the speaker open. which i don't wanna do. haha.

can you rivet the tab back in place.....or maybe make a new one from a small piece of stock.... maybe it is gooched ....maybe find a sympathetic old guy that fondly remembers lugging a big b to winter bar gigs in a siberian city to take it off your hands ....."gooched" seems to have worked it's way from dave's world of fun stuff into the lexicon....
It sounds like you need to get that speaker re-coned.
I would also recommend a multi-meter for testing the ohm load on your cab - and for future projects - after altering the wiring.
If the tinsel lead is ripped out, the speaker needs to be reconed (those wires attach to the voice coil).
P.S. - If you have the cab now wired to 4 ohms, it was NEVER 8 ohms (couldn't be).

Maybe - but In this case they were violently torn out - with enough pressure that yanked the tab off in the process.
The re-cone person would be able to tell for sure though.

I love dave's world of fun stuff! We used to yell Gooch goochy goooch! at each other circa 1987 when we would skip school and play pool. You would try to gooch! opponent's chip in shots sometimes to warlock magic results! The easier the shot, the more goooch's you had to hex it with. 'Course I'm talking French Canadians transplanted into the swamp here

i sent dave a facebook pic of the local hobby shop.....n. gooch and he got a n.gooch fridge magnet from another guy that he displays in one of his vids....you should feel right at home in the swamp....lotsa french "canajun"I love dave's world of fun stuff! That looks like you can just resolder the lead to the board. I have used a short self tapping screw to reconnect those boards to the speaker frame. It worked fine.
