Good all-round 5 string for £350-£500 new?

Hey Guys,

Just looking into buying my 3rd bass looking for a few things within my £350-£500 price range



- Good Tonal Control (As I've improved as a player EQ settings and such have become important)

- 5 String

- Good all-round bass as I play anything ranging from Metal to Indie to Jazz to Blues

- Active pick-ups possibly ? *Not Vital just may be nice*

- Also preferably 35' scale to help keep the low B string tighter

- Equal weight distribution as my last bass was so neck heavy I gave up playing it standing up so something that I could let go of stood up without iritating diving problems



Basically I just want a 5 string brand new, good tonal control, good for any and every genre and active pups, neck-thru any other nice bonuses if possible but not vital.

2 Basses I'm currently considering

Ibanez SR 605 or 505

- Besides the body wood what's the difference between these 2?
- Do they have active pick ups?
- How good is the tonal control with 3 band EQ?
- 34 or 35 scale and how tight is the B?

also

Ibanez ATK 305

-I heard the triple coil gives these massive tonal abilities how true is this?

- I've also heard it's heavy, would this cause dive in anyway whilst standing

- Again same questions about scale length, support on the B and active pups

Also obviously other suggestions are welcome these are just the 2 bass I've been considering

Id consider looking into a peavey millenium or some other peavey. People seem to rave about ibanez SR series but the 505 i had wasnt amazing imo. The EQ was pretty weak and bland. The ATK triple coil pickup has a dummy coil for hum canceling if i recall correctly so, make what you want of that. They do tend to be heavy and depending on which ATK it could have neck dive. Both are 34 in scale and the B seemed fine on both to me. Im not getting into the active stuff because you dont seem to know the difference of active pickups and active electronics, etc. There are tons of threads on it though in the electronics forum.

Give the Yamaha BB415 a try. It's a 34" scale, but is tight. It's a PJ configuration with a lot of output, and mine is about 9 lbs. Price is pretty reasonable too.
