Good body colors for maple neck

Yeah, it's a really cool color that's hard to describe. It's sort of like the light green that Gretsch uses on their two tone guitars.

This Aerodyne assembly I did worked out pretty nicely using a maple neck. This is dolphin gray.

The new Buttercream looks pretty good with maple.
Might look even better with one of the half dozen different-color Spitfire Tort pickguards, like the Vintage Burgundy or Faded Orange.View attachment 3133884

I vote for yellow (or off yellow) with a white (or black) pickguard.

My very first bass was an '83 Ibanez Roadstar II I bought in a pawn shop 30 years ago for $275. It had a maple fretboard and a sunburst body and black pickguard. The body was all nicked up with lots of chips in the paint. So I repainted it canary yellow and then had a professional illustrator airbrush Woodstock (Snoopy's bird friend) on the front of the body.

I still have the bass and I still really dig the color combination of maple with the canary yellow and a black pickguard. It sure stands out on stage.


I once had a set of DR neon strings in yellow on it and it turned heads at shows.

What are some good colors for a maple neck? I’ve done a J to PJ bass conversion with an old Squier body and upgraded everything, but I want to paint the body now. I’m excluding black and red.
I’ve been leaning towards maybe a Shell Pink with a tortoise pickguard, or Lavender with a white pickguard. I’m just wanting something different, as I have blue, red, green, white and dark purple guitars.

Strip that finish off and put a darkish orange stain on it with a tort. Be a shame to cover up that wood with paint.

I'd stop spending time on cosmetics, play the thing in any colour and get used to that colour. I'm quite sure that won't take long at all.
