Out of curiosity, where did you get the Raposo bows? Is there a store that is selling them or did you call his NY office? I am thinking about either buying one of his or putting a little more money into a Prochownick. Did you get the Owens bow off of the guy here? I was looking at that one too but I think you beat me by a day lol... Oh well, I'll keep looking... Maybe there are some shops that have his bows... Or I could just call him... I am really in the beginning process of looking for a bow right now even though I have needed one for a year or two.

i tried 2 of them, both were deals with a person, not a buisiness.
i ended up sending back the owen- it was a really nice bow, but something made me decide i should keep shopping, and try and get a "lifetime" bow rather than a "college" bow.
I would check out the ary bows through lemur music. They are fantastic bows, and they may send you a few to try out,then you can pick the best of the bunch. You may need a deposit for the bows, but would get it back upon return. Very good consistant bows. Becareful making the plunge to a more expensive bow right away. If you are just going to college, then you haven't had a chance to develop your own sound concept that comes from your instrument and good technique. I would say spring for the better bow if you can at the end of your degree, although if you get a good enough "cheap" bow (ary), a better instrument might be a more significant then. good luck.
David Gage Sells these, and they are the finest Carbon Fiber Bows I have ever tried. I highly recommend them.

haha it was local bows, now from the TB classifieds, although i did want to try both of those.
and that owen bow really is sweet. i sent it back to him today- to be honest i think i regret it.
+1. I love mine, it's one of the best bows I've ever handled... now, I'm not an expert on exotic bows, but having played professionally in an orchestra for 13 years, I think I can comment on practicality, and the metro is well good enough for playing in orchestra.

when i tried one i thought it sounded more or less the same as the Finale, wich is half the price.
did you hear a more natural sound from the metro? maybe its not speaking since im playing a shen 80?

I feel like I've tried one at some point but wasn't that impressed with it... I have a shen willow 7/8 and it seems like a lot of cf bows just don't sound good on it... I have only played one bow under 140 that truley made it sound great and that was $5000 so that bow could make any bass sound good... I hve a good feeling about this Owens bow since it is a good weight and looks really nice. I am also trying out the Marco r bow that is $700 on this website. It is lighter but the seller says it's a really strong stick. I'll probobly end up getting on e of those 2
Do not know if you know it, but like to suggest W.E. Dorfler Masterbow (german or real silver). Beautiful, balanced, strong and beautiful sound are some things I have heard and experienced. Maybe it's good quality for the price.
I too am interested in this. Can anyone who has a Prochownik comment on whether it's worth the price difference over bows in the 1k range? It will be interesting to determine whether it's worthwhile to save up more since Prowchonik's are in a more comfortable budget range (nearly 2k) as opposed to top tier 5k+ bows.
The prochownicks and also George rubino has some fantastic bow for just under $2k I played some at the 2009 convention and I was very impressed. Right now I'm nit necessarily looking for a top of the line proffesional bow. More like something that can get me through an undergraduate and maybe into orchestra auditions.
