Good Instructional Videos/Books/CDs?

what are some good instructional videos/books/cds? i've got the "play it all bass guitar" dvd, but it didn't really help me. i read that the "Link Removed" is a good pattern book, i'm thinking about buying that.

any recommendations?

One online store that seems to have all the best bass DVDs and books is bassplace.com. I used them for Bass DVDs and they have great service. They have topics on Bass Tapping, Bass Slapping, and Bass Hand Technique. They publish a lot of their own stuff as well. The site isn't much to look at, but it gets the job done especially with some video samples on the better DVDs.

I have never heard of The Nashville Guitar Pattern book, is it for bass???

I just picked up the bass about six months ago. I first went and bought a book for beginers. I learned a few scales and whatnot, but didn't learn how they went together with playing with a song. I "gogled" bass tips and came up with a site bassguitartips.com. All it is is a huge advertisement for this system that this guy designed to learn how to play the bass. Its not a learn the fretboard in ten minutes gauranteed type of thing. Its a comprehensive guide on what your role as a bassist is to the fundamentals of chords and scales and how to actually use them to make basslines right off of the top of your head. It came with a crapload of software to help with practicing. I can actually say i learned the bass in about two months after receiving these books. Im not saying im great yet, i have a lot of practicing ahead of me, but i understand the bass completely. All the scales, modes, and chords there are. And he teaches it in a way as if he is giving you a one on one lesson. And he teaches everything in a way that is completely understandable to even the absolute beginer. Check out the site. Everything that is written on site is damn true. Including all of the customer feeback. I don't know how much it is now. But it is worth its weight in gold.

I've owned or rented a ton of them and the best, by far, no comparison at all, is the "Groovin' for Heaven" video series by Norm Stockton! He spends some time on religious stuff and specifically worship type things, but only about 10% and the other 90% is absolutely invaluable as far as bass instruction and applicable to every type of player in every style and genre. I can't recommend this series highly enough!

I never said I KNEW the bass completely. I understand it. I personally dont think that they are the same thing. Any scale there is, if you tell me the intervals I will play it up and down the neck with ease. Any chord you can give me, I'll break it down and know what notes to play to outline that chord. I understand how it all works, and how the fretboard works. How to easily find any particular note in any octave. I cant get the perfect sound thats in my head out through my fingers and onto my bass yet. Heck, I don't even have that great of technique yet. Im working on that. But i do unerstand it.

the fact you even made the statements here and in your other post show you are unaware of how little know. You have barely scratched the surface of even the topics you mention. Music is one of those things the more you learn the more you realize don't know. That is a big part of the excitment.

I am a member of their street team., but I am also a memberof many other street teams as well. I just like their videos, after yo buy it you register it, and boom you get more stuff. how cool is that . Do I get paid by them no, and yes I have to pay for my DVD's just like everyone else.
I am just one the street team members that's all.

Im going to do now what i should probably have done a while ago. Shut up and just keep reading and learning. Im sure i do have a lot more to learn, and probably more than i even know that i need to learn. For just starting playing four months ago, I think that im doing pretty darn good, and i owe it to the above mentioned books. I should really read the rest of this thread and order some of the books that were mentioned. Thank you to all for putting me in my place in such a nice way.

It is a great course alex I bought it on whim as well. His sales pitch is freaky and it looks and sounds like an informercial, but the materials themselves are set up extremely well. It is the best bass instruction I've encountered in 10 years of looking. No one on this site is going to give it the time of day though..because his infomercial style of selling it is weird. I ought to email and ask him why he does it that way..it must be working for him.
