Good music in Chicago?

Hey all,

I'm on tour but have a few days to myself in Chicago, and I was wondering if any TBers can recommend some great live music in town? Ideally Jazz, Hip Hop, Funk, Latin or anything with a groove!

Never mind. For Jazz I'd hit The Green Mill or the Jazz Showcase. For blues I would hit B.L.U.E.S. ..... Skip buddy guys place.

The Green Mill is supposed to be a great jazz venue (I've never been, though). http://greenmilljazz.com/

The Shrine has R&B and hip hop, but I've heard they don't handle live shows well at all.

Schuba's is more rock/folk-oriented, but it's a great little room. http://www.schubas.com/

Thanks for the tips all! I'll be staying near Ukrainian Village (not sure what the general area is called). Was hoping to catch big Sharay Reed in action but he is out of town just now! Are there any venues that are a hub for similarly heavy players?! Thanks!

Ukrainian Village is a hip area these days. Let me ask a friend if he knows about any other clubs/shows to check out.

The Empty Bottle is in Ukrainian Village. They are also pretty eclectic.

See if you can find The Reader newspaper (free)- Bands, Venue Addresses and show times that cover a good amount of Chicago.

I know you mentioned jazz, but the Chicago Symphony is a world class experience. I saw them at a time when I was younger and pretty apathetic about classical music, and was blown away.
