The Digital calipers say your can is 4.25" high with a diameter of 3"

I got the impression that these measurements are used as a comparison between necks to actually see their differences without handling them... That's solid information that isn't subject to interpretation by other players.

But there are other factors that go into the feel of a neck beyond the thickness. As I said above, the shoulder of a neck, contributing to its overall profile ("C" shape vs. "D" shape, for example) makes a big difference to the overall feel of a neck. If you ignore these types of measurements, only providing the depth (or thickness) of a neck isn't telling the whole story.

I've played basses hand-crafted by many top luthiers whose overall neck thickness was the same, but the shape of the neck varied widely, and so did the overall feel.

IMO, measurements do not tell the story nearly as well as handling a bass, and shouldn't be used as a substitute.
