Got my '06 Rickenbacker 4003!

mmm...that is a beauty. i didn't know about the new thinner necks and now that i do i'm extremely jealous. the walnut wings i'm somewhat apprehensive about but i'll have a little faith..

my personal suggestion for you strings is some Thomastik-Infeld Powerbass nickel round wound strings. i have them on my ric and i LOVE them...just crunchy enough to use in modern rock settings with a lot of bite and i can roll of the tone and get an absolutely killer round vintage tone. a little spendy though.

I thought the pup cover was all chrome? I have read that they are, and you guys say they aren't? Oh well.

I bought a Ric second hand, so it didn't come with the pup cover. I sure do love Ric's, and I really hope you enjoy yours.
I am not a huge fan of the FireGlo (I am more of a BurgundyGlo/JetGlo man), but that is a beautiful bass, other than the color (IMO). Nice 'n shiny.

Just revisited your thread..... Thanks for posting the sound clips.

Sure sounds like a Ric alright! How do you like it? The 4003 mode is definitely fatter sounding.

I've installed a switch on my 4001 to bypass the capacitor inline with the bridge pickup. Most of the time I prefer bassier tone with the capacitor bypassed.

I see threads like this and it makes me miss my '79 jetglo 4003.

After I'm not looking at the thread anymore I can remember why I let it go (mostly because of the bridge pickup surround tearing up my hand ) but while looking at the pics I want one again.

And the bridge p'up cover is plastic now? When did that happen? Mine never had the top part of the cover. Unfortunately it had a fairly sharp edge all the way around the remaining retainer.

The top part that you didn't have is chrome plated plastic, but the retainer bit screwed onto the body is still metal.

not sure if i'll take off the pickguard, will it be a skeleton like when i took off my pickguard on my MIM jazz? lol


and btw yes, i absolutely love the sound. It sounds great with my Boss ME-50B

I think there may have been a brief transitional period where the cover was metal (I'll have to dig up the old thread on the Rick Resource forum where this very topic was discussed) but as far as I know, that's how it's always been.
