Grandma's Kingston Hollowbody

My grandma played some bass back in the day so after playing here Kingston hollow body for a bit this Christmas I snapped some pics. I can't find much info on these so what do you guys know about them?

Here is what I know:

She bought it used a long time ago (I'm guessing late 60's).
Previous owners said it was German.


Despite some super high action and fair share of cracks in the finish it still sounded decent and was pretty fun to play.

I think it might be Japanese...

Yep, made in Japan by Kawai in the 60's. Here is a page of info about that bass:

Neat looking bass - reminds me of the old Eko violin bass without the scroll headstock.

Just came across this long lost post on your Gram's Kingston.
I had one exactly like it- wouldn't think there'd be too many
if any, still in existence. Was my first bass at about 16 yrs. old.
Pic circa '73 is me surrounded by bandmates at the time
in drummer's bedroom. The Peavey series 210 head atop
a Peavey 315 "coffin" cab was my NTM acquisition.
Lived on the MS. Gulf Coast at the time and made a special trip
to Meridian Peavey facility. Met w Hartley Peavey who took me
to their warehouse and dug up a blk vinyl cover for the cab.
I was "in high cotton" since they'd discontinued the 315 production.
Would love to get my hands on that bass just for the sentimental value.
