Double Bass Great Historical German (style) Bow Makers

H R Pfretzschner began making bows in 1901. 1966 on they were made in a state owned factory in East Germany. An early bow by H R is considered highly prized. Later bows, especially after 1966 not so much. There is a ‘German Bass Bows’ group on Facebook that has experts who can visually date the difference in various Pfretzschner bows. Pfretzschner bows run from ‘fantastic’ (‘20s) to ‘hohum’ (post ‘66).

You won’t know if you love the bow until until you play it on trial. Sounds like fun.

@Pawel Knapik has an early one, he may want to comment.

Apart from Reid Hudson who I believe is now retired, what makers are regarded as making the best French style bows? I am especially interested in which German based makers are highly regarded in French bows?
