Hello TB'rs:

Does anyone know or have links to any info on these 4001 Made in Japan clones from 1977? I recently acquired one in left handed with checkered binding and I can't find another in existence. I found a v63 in lefty but that was it. I just finished cleaning, conditioning and setting this guy up. It plays pretty damn good I must say and does sound like a RIC.

Any insight to these hardware, build quality, etc. would be appreciated. Are these worth anything on the collector market?

Thanks in Advance!!
JP

Sweet find, congrats on your new bass. I don't know too much about the MIJ Rickenfackers (other than I want one!), other than they are a rare beast.

Value-wise, unfortunately, not only is it a limited market for these basses, there are limited outlets where you may be able to advertise it for sale (if you so wished), due to the litigious nature of RIC in protecting their copyright.

It looks like a keeper to me anyway. ;)

I have a Greco RB that I bought as a project. It had several easily mended issues, a bad pickup, and required a refinish. I installed a pair of actual Ric high gain pickups and completed the bass in a bourbon-burst finish.

Below are the before and after photos.

If you have any questions about Greco RB basses please feel free to ask. I don’t know everything about them, but I know enough to answer most questions.
