Happy Memorial Day 2018!

I've been looking over your shoulders for the last several months, and I've finally decided to join the fray here on TB.

I've struggled with the classical guitar for many years, and I find that my hands (particularly my left) no longer have the flexibility demanded by that instrument (I'm 72). A friend who was with a folk/blues/rock group suggested that I try bass guitar, which I did. Being a shameless opportunist, I traded in some of my son's old guitars and amplifiers that were taking up attic space (with his permission) for a new Jazz bass and an amplifier, and here I am!

I actually found the transition from classical to bass guitar to be quite seamless. I think those years of study helped. I also play the bagpipes in a local street band, so that helps too.

Anyway, I'm now playing with that folk/blues/rock group. We have our first gig in NH in about three weeks. Wish me luck!

Hope the gig goes well...if you get a chance to do a gig report that always is well-received here.
If the band falls apart in dramatic fashion that also makes for great reading for the rest of us!
72 is an impressive age to be taking on a new band and instrument ... I can only hope I still have that desire to play at that age.

I finally had to give up rhythm guitar at age 82. My strumming hand just started hurting. The pain did lead to surgery so I retired my 6 string guitar. Still play the bass each Sunday - different movements used.

My point - you have years yet to go.
