Hello everyone! Long time stalker of these forums who just decided to join up. Thanks for all the quality content you've posted on here, it's been super helpful. Y'all are the best.
I'm a student originally from Mumbai, India, currently studying at Carleton College in MN. I've been playing bass for almost a year and half now, but only really got serious about six months ago. I took one term of lessons right at the start, but mostly I've learned everything I know from Scott over at Scott's Bass Lessons, of which I am a subscriber.
I enjoy all kinds of music, and I feel this statement is more true coming from me than most people, because I run a world music show specializing in maximum variety. So I've listened to everything from Vivaldi to Aphex Twin to Chilean electro-pop to Indonesian gamelan music to classic blues to Afrobeat to beyond. In terms of my bass playing, some of my major influences are guys like Paul Simonon, Joe Dart, Evan Marien and Marcus Miller. My long term musical goals involve improving massively on bass, learning the tabla (an Indian drum) and piano, and writing Indian-classical/electronic/jazz fusion music. I'm a long way away from being able to do that, but that's the dream.
I currently play a Squier Deluxe Dimension IV, but I have a Sire V7 coming in next weekend that I'm super (!) excited about.
Can't think of anything else to say except that I'm really happy to finally be part of this community and I hope to learn as well as contribute!
