In conversion from guitar to bass player here. I've been losing interest in playing guitar in the last few years due to being stuck and lack progress. Spent too much time tinkering on the instrument and not enough playing.
That plus I only play at home. I've drawn to the bass more and more, along with the idea of eventually start jamming and maybe play the odd cover gig. I have too many bad habits on the guitar at this point to even try to jam.
I figured on pressing the reset button by learning bass from scratch mechanically, and fill my theory gaps along the way. I'm more of a background guy and never bothered to learn how to solo very well. I like the idea of locking with a drummer.
My gear is modest, as are my goals:
Lefty Ibanez Gio Soundgear PJ model, passive
Straight into a mixer DI input
monitoring through my Eris 3.5 monitors at home
And eventually get a B1on or the like to get a better sound at home and an amp once I decide I can keep up with a band.
Favorite players:
Geezer Butler
Steve Harris
Bob Daisley
I also like old funk like the Meters, James Brown, etc.
Open to learning most anything once I start progressing though.
