Groove Workshop

Hey guys I just found out about this DVD set Victor Wooten made in 2008 called groove workshop. Its got over 5 hours of footage of instruction on Bass Playing. According to amazon reviews it focuses less on technique and more on music philosophy. You can find the trailer for it here:

It also comes with a nice cover picture of Mr. Wooten himself pointing right at YOU!

I'm thinking about buying it so I just wanted to recommend it to all of you since it seems pretty cool.

IMO, it's well worth getting. Lots of good information and inspiration from Victor and Anthony Wellington - two great players and teachers.

This DVD is a must have.
With his book "the music lesson", here are awesome christmas gift.

absolutely agree with the above. His approach to music is what I am going to teach my children...when I will have them!
Meantime, I'll try to teach a new trick to an old dog....

Couple of highlights for me-

The whole "2 through 10" thing.

Vic's solo in the Gmin example using tthe notes NOT within the Gmin scale (using "2 through 10").

Listening to your internal drummer & playing along to it.

I've already absorbed the "2-10" model, even my band mates were trying to figure out why the drummer and I sounded "tighter" on a gig over the weekend.

I'll be the first to admit there was alot in that video that I had taken for granted over the years. One thing that really spoke to me, was the "not concentrating on technique, but rather concentrating on the playing" spoke to me 10 fold. Anthony's timing method was the bomb too.

That video was well worth the $, even if it was $50 or $60............. instead of $39.95. It was actually priceless for me.

If you're one who would expect slap and tapping , etc from this vid, you'll be let down,it's not your "stereotypical" Victor.......... it's definitely about the groove.
