Grounding hum?...

OK, so i did a search and found a few posts that had some info but not anything really specific. On all of my active basses i have this hum when not touching the strings or bridge etc... Is this normal? I would like to know a little more in depth what causes this. I'm not real swift when it comes to electronic issues so forgive me. Would it be grounding in the plug or grounding issues with my electronics?

Sounds like you need to shield the pickup and control cavities. By touching the strings that are grounded through the bridge you are using your body as a shield behind the body of the bass. You also could probably nearly eliminate the problem by putting some good humbucking or splitcoil pickups in it.

can you use regular tin foil as a shield? my friend said you could but i dont want to waste my time if it really isn't possible...

You can but you will not be able to solder to it and copper tape is preferred over aluminum.
