GT-1B in effects send/return loop

Hi fellow bass legends

I've had the GT-1B for about 8 months and been gigging the crap out of it. Spent about 12 hours all up customising the sound I want. Pretty simple - super flat amp with some minor EQ tweaks, limiter, then muff, flanger, filter, or pitch shift as needed for the song.

Anyhow, I just put a deposit down on a GK 700RBii - beyond exciting!

The 700RBii has an effects send/return. I need the GT-1B for effects but don't want to interfere with the GK sound (as far as I can avoid). So I'm looking at another swathe of hours re-doing everything on the unit to fit the new amp. No biggie.

My question (finally) is:

Do any of you use the GT-1B in the effects send/return loop instead of bass>GT-1B>amp?

And if so, does it work well?

what do you mean by not want to interfere with the GK sound? Did you mean to say you don't want the route of bass>GT-1B>GK amp?

I don't have GT-1B, but I do own the GT-10B which at one time I used it with 4 cables connection method. This method involves the amp's effect loop send & return (as well as GT-10B own send & return jacks). But, since the GT-1B doesn't have it's own send & return jacks, thus it cannot use the 4 cable connection method.

The only reason for using GT-1B with amp's effect loop return (only the return jack, not both) is to bypass the amp's preamp (in this case, to bypass the GK preamp) if the user wants to rely on the preamp, amp simulation (and probably including cab simulation) provided by GT-1B.

Essentially I mean I don't want the GT-1B to "colour" the sound of the amp. A big part of choosing the GK for me is the tone of the amp, and I know most multi-effects will colour or "dull down" the amps' native tone. You can run an empty patch on the GT-1B with no amp modelling etc but the tone will still change.

The GT-1B not having that send/return is one of its biggest negatives IMO.

Definitely don't want to bypass the GK preamp (would defeat my whole purpose!) and I get the feeling that even if I did just plug it into the send/return on the amp the effects would come after the DI stage and not go to the desk, which will also defeat one of the effects I rely on the most - the pitch shifter.

So it looks like I'll go the standard bass>GT-1B>amp and just fiddle with my patches until I can get it sounding the way I want.

I played my first gig with the gt 1b on Tuesday. (I got it on Monday)
I ran the mono output to the effects return on my Peavey MiniMax head. It sounded great!

Many of the factory presets are completely usable. All I did was assign an octave to the CTL button, and I was basically ready for the gig.

I powered it with a battery pack instead of the AA internal battery compartment. It worked just fine, and the pack is rechargeable.

So, yes, if you run the output from the gt 1b to the amp’s effects return you’ll get good, useable tones, but not the sound of your amp’s pre amp.

Sorry to bring this up from the dead, but since you didn't want to colour the sound of your GK, I got a Boss PSM-5 that use with the Boss GT-B, not only can I power it daisy chained with a FS-7, I can also use it to bypass the GT-1B completely. Most people were saying this was a negative, no bypass.
