Hey!
I know you mentioned using guitar amps for recording material alond with a DI and you liked the sound and all. Well, today I played my MM through an old Marshall 50w JMP and was blown away,man!
I mean, in the sense that I plan on getting myself one ASAP and using it for my dirty signal, because I found the tone in my head finaly (along with my mesa).
I just wanted to see your opinion on reliability live? I don't remember and couldnt find if you mentioned using them live?
I know you play guitar on this tour and all, but you get your dirty signal via other means, so I wanted to se what you would think of the option?

Guitar amps rule on bass. With Beck, I used to use a Peavey CLassic 50 for a dirty sound along with Mesa rig, and it was sweet. Don't worry about blowing them up, just shave off some low end. Bass players in the 50's - 70's used guitar amps all the time. I own a Traynor BassMaster II head, essentially a guitar amp, that just smokes. Marshall JTM45, small combo amps, Magnatones, Fender Twins, Fender Supers, Roland JC-120's, I've used all those for great, unique bass tones.

Agree. Of the list of people who record with guitar amps, JMJ and Roy Mitchell-Cardenas (Mute Math) are the two modern bassists that come to mind who really shine in their use of this. Thanks for sharing your list of what's "worked for you," JMJ. That essentially "Bassman" tone is luscious.

Because my 750/410 will blow the doors off the room, my home rig is an old Beltone 210.
