Guitar Center *** Just Happened!!!

So here's what I just went through and needless to say I am not too happy!
So I see a set of studio monitors here that I want to purchase:
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
I call the store which is across town 30 miles and ask the employee to put his hands on the merchandise and hold it for me until I can drive over to pick it up. I drive over to the store and there are two speakers behind the counter fitting the description. The guy waits for 15 min or so, then puts them on the counter to ring me up and I ask about cables as the add said that cables were included. So he disappears for another 20 min and the store manager comes and tells me that the they don't have the speakers? The employee made a mistake? I said what are the speakers behind the counter? She says floor models? I said well just give me those for the same price? She said she can't do that, but she can give me a deal on a new set...not anywhere close to the price of the advertised set which was supposed to be in excellent condition? So I have to take my son somewhere this afternoon and was forced to leave empty handed??
This was store #762 Marietta, GA Manager was Shay Campbell
I plan to send a letter to the higher ups, anyone know who to send this to?

The add was for a used set in excellent condition. The floor models were not even in excellent condition as they had scratches and rub marks. She refused to honor the pricing on either the floor models or new monitors.

?

They are still listed in the used section of the web site for $349.

You saw them with your own two eyes sitting on the counter.

Did they have the AC cords with them? What cables were you thinking came with them? Audio cables? Because I don't see where audio cables automatically come with any powered monitor. If those babies were sitting there on the counter with AC cables, you should have paid and run instead of pushing for the audio cables.

Buying used from GC is a where-is as-is proposition. The person with whom you spoke on the phone is the guilty party, not the manager, nor GC HQ. I'd be pissed, too ... but I'd just shrug it off. You'd have paid too much in any case.

Yeah, you can get these as low as $150 each used. Still $349 for a used pair is not bad considering they go for $249 for a single new.

Still, that is some weird behavior from the manager. Must be more to this story.

Sheite, I was just asking for power cables? I was going to purchase the audio cables separately!
I wouldn't be so pissed if I
#1 Had not called ahead and verified that they would hold the item for me.
#2 Driven 62 miles round trip.
***?

Someone may have bought the used ones online, so they had to set them aside. They would still be "available online" until someone else updated the listing. That said, I love Guitar Center and have never had a bad experience with them. (A few of my students work at one and I will effing fail them if they richard me around.) (That last part was a joke.)

Manager is wrong, as well. He should have compensated the OP for the error and given him the floor model at advertised price. I experienced something similar when I went to buy 4 new tires. I waited 30 min. When they were ready to work on my car, they told me they didn't have the tires in stock. The manager gave me the next grade up ($400 more) at the same price. That's what keeps a business in business.

False, making a $400 loss regularly will put you out of business. Obviously the cost to them isn't as much, but that being the case they'll still need to wait for you to need a new set of tyres before they break even, then another set to turn a profit.

In the U.K. If something is Miss-priced it wouldn't need to be sold at that price. Crappy thing to do if it's not honoured but point of sale is hard to get right.

OP - that sucks but seems to be these threads seem to pop up often about GC...

Sure, the cost to the tire place may have cost them an extra hundred bucks (their cost) to keep a customer. Just wondering how much more this manager thought he could sell these scratch and dent floor models for. $25 maybe?

Sorry to hear that... Crappie service is common in my past experience there... Simple solution: never shop at guitar center.

The JBL LSRs are not bad. I've done several mixes on the 6" version that translated pretty well. They are not exactly accurate / detailed in the mids but for the money they are a good buy.

well, I'd consider Floor Models as demos or used gear. Google search GC Corporate
for the address... Be assured your letter will go into the big box along with the other
thousand letters.

Actually that's not always true. Virtually every company's HQ takes written complaints very seriously. Especially today when most people can be counted on not to follow through on their issue. Letters have automatic persistence with most companies. And people who take the time to send them one tend not to just go away quietly. And since most people never go beyond making verbal complaints, a written one is pretty rare. So there aren't going to be thousands of complaint letters in the box in any event.
