Guitar Fetish Pickups

So I've been visiting guitarfetish.com on and off for a little bit, debating whether or not the hype is worth it. Anyone with experience with GFS parts out there? Prices seem too low for them to be any good, of course thats a bad way to judge, but we all do it.

The reason I'm more curious now is that I have a deal on a MIM p coming my way. The stock pick-up and bridge were removed to be put on another bass the seller has (a friend of mine who used them fix up a beloved, though very road worn bass). In any case, I can pick up the bass for about 100 bucks (everything else is fine and intact), and in order to keep the project costs down, I was thinking of getting a pickup and bridge from GFS.

Thoughts? Should I just go with a trusted name (was thinking a hipshot bridge/quarter pounder) even though that would set me way farther back?

I don't know anything about their bass pickups, but I puts some GFS Lipstick Tube pickups into a strat a few years ago and they were surprisingly good. I was a bit nervous about the GFS pickups so I put a Seymour Duncan in the neck position (which I expected to use the most) and GFS in the middle and bridge positions to save some cash. If I was doing it now I'd probably just put the 3 GFS pickups in. I hope this helps. Of course YMMV.

GFS is strictly for Guitar PUPS, IMHO. But really, for $30 a pop, what do you have to lose? If they don't sound good enough for your MIM bass, put them in an experiment bass. Whatever you want, but I'd go with SD....as for bridges? Hipshot would be fine. Maybe a BadAss? GFS bridges are too cheap for me to be comfortable.

I was about to post a similar question - I'm looking for decent sounding P-bass pickups.

I like the sound of the 1966 to 1980 grey-bottom pickups - which generally have about 10.8 to 11.2 K resistance. Have played some Fender '62 reissues and they just sound TOO bright for my tastes - I like that kinda compressed sound out.

Just wondering if anyone has tried the GFS P-bass pickups - especially A/B'd against a grey-bottom? Maybe I'll have to invest $35 and try it myself.

i've heard people on here getting really good results from the alnico MM humbucker, but have yet to hear anything about the fender style pups. Though as others have said, their guitar pickups get a lot of love on other boards (thegearpage, as well as a squier 51 modding board i used to peruse).

I used one of their P pickups in a project bass quite a while back. It sounded fine to me, don't remember a lot of details about the character of it though. Be prepared to do a little work to the pickguard, I remember it being larger than the standard Fender cutout - same size as the SX pickups I think.
