Guitar player, now a Bass player!

Hello bass players!

I am a long time guitar player who resumed playing after a 25 year hiatus. I had been playing electric in a church band with some accomplished pros for the past 5 years. Then...the bass player moved away.

I decided I was tired of skating over the top while the leader just chugs away at his acoustic... I felt non essential. I have been playing bass weekly while working on sight reading and theory, and I am having a blast. I am still doing online lessons, playing bass is a wonder, driving the band with the drummer. I am now essential.

I want to learn walking bass lines. Like jazz or old school bass players. Suggestions?

Oh and how do I join a forum or club on Talkbass? I can't seem to find that.

Walking bass lines in a nutshell. If there is a need for a walk target the next root, but miss it by one, two or three frets, now walk to it one chromatic note (fret) at a time. It may take a while to get a feel for when to start your walk so you are dead on the next root when it becomes active.

That could take a couple of days/weeks to get down.....
