Guitar Rig 5 or is there anything like line6 pod?

This is way back but I used to own a line5 pod for my guitar, it was pretty good for amps and effects?.

Is there anything similar to that for a bass, just want to plug in some headphones and play.

Or should I just get guitar rig?

I'm using Line 6 Pod Farm (v1) thru a Line 6 Toneport GX on Mac (at home) and PC (at office). Paid $80. There's 5 bass amps (in addition to 10-12 guitar amps). Plug your bass and headphones in the GX and use whatever you want to play mp3 on the computer. Really cheap solution.

I suggest you forget built-in presets as they don't sound good at all IMO and spend some time creating your own. I created 7-8 presets based on Ampeg SVT with 8x10" cab, GK 800rb with 4x10" Hartke cab and Eden Traveler with Eden 4x10" cab. I'm using Shure ES2 in-ear and I must say the sound is simply outstanding.

Even tough I think Line6 Pod Farm bass amps sound outstanding with in-ears, I don't know if they will sound as good thru a PA (with Bass Pod XT), will need a very good PA to give it justice.

One thing sure is Bass POD will need to be paired with a very clean power amp and flat response bass cab (fEARful) if you want to used it as your main rig.

PS: according to reviews Bass Pod XT was a big improvement over Bass Pod

GuitarRig 5 is a pretty good solution. IMO it's one of the better revisions since version 2.

But it's not exactly "plug and play", at least for me. For one thing you need to install it on your computer, as opposed to just ripping open a box and plugging it in. That also means configuring/trouble shooting your audio interface. Then when you want to use it, you need to boot your music computer every time. That may mean you're kind of stuck in one spot, depending on your computer. A Pod type device can be plugged in and pretty much tossed around without too many ill effects.

I use it as a plugin for ProTools, but there is a standalone version (that still runs on the computer).

That said, I prefer the sound of GR5 (as well as SVX and Amplitube) over just about any digital modeling hardware device. I'm just not sure about the convenience part if you "just want to plug in some headphones and play".

i also use a Line 6 GX but pod farm 2.5, i think it a great setup for recording your bass. i also use cakewalk music creator 6, it a "cheap" slimmed down version of sonar.
if you look on the line 6 site you will find 100s of downloads for pod farm, lots off bass downloads too.
sounds really good out my 200watt amp and two 12" bass cabs and just as good with the headphones out the line 6 GX when playing late at night.
